When Ellie wants something she can not have, she barks.
When another dog has something she wants, she barks.
The cats meow, yowl, etc. she barks. If I do not pay enough attention to her, she barks. She doesn't want to be in her crate,
she barks.
It is enough to drive the most patient person a bit batty.
I am ignoring the bark for what she wants behavior. I also ignore it while she is crated. When the cats are being pissy, I get irritated, because that gets the other dogs going. If she is barking over something the other dogs have, I put it away.
last night I got really upset with her when I was sitting on the sofa giving scratches to Winnie. She jumped up on the other side, and I started giving her scratches too. That wasn't good enough, she proceeded to try and hog me by growling and nudging Winston away. I instantly got up, and crated her. I ripped her a new butt verbally like she could understand that there would be none of that crap in my house. She has done this once before when Cleveland was in a spot she wanted, and I crated her then as well.
Last night while I was making some food she tried to steal the bread right next to me off the counter. She got into trouble and chased out of the kitchen. Each time she tried to creep back in I told her out and backed her out of the kitchen.
Those are the only instances of naughtiness outside of trash raiding I've had. She does listen pretty well, has caught onto her name, etc. She loves playing with Cleveland, and vice versa. Winnie doesn't play as much, but he doesn't mind playing with her too.
I'd like her to get over this barking crap, and hopefully I'm doing the right thing when she tries to be bossy with me or the dogs.
She does NILF very well and is always eager to do what you ask.
