just kidding! Eleanor is so very very naughty right now. My dad called me a little bit ago, and Ellie started acting like a spoiled rotten 2 yr old. I've mentioned that she is very vocal. Well right now she won't shut up, as I have her crated. She is crated because: 1. She pooped on the floor. 2. She got into the trash while I cleaned up the poop 3. barked to go outside 4. Would not stop barking outside 5. Would not come inside. 6. Stole my dinner off the counter. 7. Tried to steal the frying pan off the stove. 8. Stole the butter off the counter. I had planned on taking the dogs for a ride tonight after I ate, but since it is late now, it isn't going to happen. I'm frazzled. Irritated. She is trying to destroy her crate. I have to win or else she'll be a holy terror right? ! lol Seriously, how do you get a dog to stop barking? She barks over everything, for everything... I try and try to ignore it but you can only ignore it so long before you go bananas! If I could get her to stop barking all the freaking time maybe I wouldn't feel at wits end so often with her. Once she stops barking, I'll let her out of her crate.

I resorted to the squirt bottle. After I let her out of her crate, she started barking at me a few minutes later. I squirted her, and she stopped barking, then went about playing with the dogs. A little bit later she started in again and I squirted her. I noticed a few minutes later that she wasn't in the livingroom, so I thought she was napping on the bed, so I called for her. She came to the bedroom door, but acted afraid to come into the livingroom. I felt terrible. I sweet talked her and she came to me and I loved her up. I haven't had anymore barking. I've learned she is sensitive, however she is very persistent as well. Maybe not the best way to deal with this, but, when I say she has been barking all the time, I mean it. She had been outside, she had been fed, she'd had her treat, and her one on one time with me. She had played a lot with the other dogs, so her barking was/is a mystery. Winston and Cleveland, even Rhett and Lilly only bark when there is a reason... cat, rabbit, person, etc. They don't bark out of boredom, to get attention, or in need of something. Cleveland will speak on command, and if Winnie barks out of the blue, I pay attention. Oh, and I didnt' crate her because she pooped. I could care less about poop it's what she did after the poop! I also didnt her. Just told her she was a stinky b!tch.

Squirt bottle was how I got Chubby to stop being such a counter surfer (he still does it if he thinks he is in the clear, but it used to much sooooo much worse!).
Oh Ellie! Oh Melonie! Man, when a dog decides to get on your nerve they go whole hog!

Barking can be self-reinforcing behavior so sometimes ignoring it doesn't work. I would try to play dectective to see why she might be barking (stress, boredom most common reasons). Maybe she just likes to hear herself talk.....

Today when I got home from work, she started barking, and didn't stop until she was outside. Cleveland and Winnie will bark when they hear me pull up, and continue until they hear the porch door, then they stop. Then it's all wiggles and little grunty noises until I open their crates, then they still don't bark, they just run crazy zoomies and sound like a heard of elephants heading for the door. She and Cleveland are busy wrestling right now. He is good at wearing her out that way. Heading out in a bit for a walk with her. She's really good on a leash
We'll see how she does tonight.

Beastley will bark and yowl like crazy when you ignore him, especially when he feels it's playtime. He cycles. He won't do it for a long time then all of a sudden it will start and last about a week or two then all of a sudden stop. It just keeps repeating itself. Thank goodness he isn't a counter surfer and trash grabber.

This evening the barking was at a minimum, except when we went outside and the dogs spotted something. Then it was tough getting her to calm down. I had to get the other dogs inside before I could get her to chill and come inside.

I had to get the other dogs inside before I could get her to chill and come inside. Didn't you say you think she may have some hound in her? Hounds are big on making a lot of noise. That's how the hunters kept track of where they were in the days before radio collars. Penelope Beagleburger isn't terribly barky at all. Pumpkin the Bassett Mix from Beyond the fringe can be very, very persistent in her barking.
