Hey everyone, Blake is lacking a lot of structure in his life, and has been pretty spoiled since I moved back to my parents' house in August, and I think we are due for a little boot camp. His "acting out" includes barking for treats and food, going into the trash, pulling on the leash, etc - nothing too serious but really irritating stuff nonetheless, stuff that he hasn't had a problem with so far in his life (he's about 7.5 years old). It's nothing that can't be solved with a little refresher course ...... mostly a course in dog-owning for momma, naturally. He also had an "altercation" on Christmas Eve with an offleash boxer (the unrestrained boxer attacked him while he was on a *leashed* walk, and said boxer is now a little worse for wear - everyone is okay though), but that's an entirely different post for another day. Does anyone know of some great CPDTs/CPDT-KAs in Northern NJ? (I am in the Chatham/Morristown area.) I'm specifically looking for a CPDT or someone very close to their CPDT certification because I have had some very negative experiences with non-CPDT "trainers." (If you can make a good argument against my opinion, I'd welcome it, but it's how I feel right now!) I would need private lessons at least in the beginning due to Blake's anxiety/aggression. I'm not looking to spend a whole ton of money (who is?) but I would be willing to shell out for the right trainer. Thanks in advance!

Also, if you have trouble finding someone, let me know. I'm a CPDT and can set up an appt to come visit. I don't really take clients any more, just here and there but would be happy to book something for you if needed.

Thanks all! And thank you, Mary, for the offer - that is very kind. I will let you know once I have done a little homework.

Mary verified on another thread recently that this trainer is awesome. Pam Dennison www.positivedogs.com/ She has a book I just took out from Library Positive Dog Training: a complete guide for idiots (something like that) She now offers online classes that follow the book which is good for those who cant get to the classes. She is in Northern NJ. Unfortunately just a little to far for me to go for classes held mostly at night. But when and if she does like a 1 day seminar I would probably go. and by the way Dee which Maryellen recommended above is awesome. She also likes Pam. I also posted a thread recently called Pig Training. That page has videos of the pig being trained as she would train a dog. also there are dog videos too. Awesome stuff. therealpitbull.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=moldmanagethepitbullmind&action=display&thread=9887And last I dont know where about you are in Northern NJ but where I live borders Northern NJ and in Feb I will be doing a Free lecture at my library on Positive dog training and how you can use it to live a happy, less stressful, fun and healthy life with your dog. I will be mentioning the above trainers for people to consider as well as I am looking into a few people closer to my area.
