Ever since Mav and Cap had their fight almost 3 weeks ago, I've been keeping them separated about 90% of the time.
In the mornings before work, I'll let Mav into the bedroom with Cappy, who's in bed. Sometimes Mav will jump right up, other times he tries to hide. When he tries to hide, he starts to shake. Eventually jump up on bed. When they're in bed, they both do a few short "Oh crap, he saw me!" looks to each other. Not stink eyes, just looks to see that the other dog is there. Then they'll lie there for a few hours till I put them in their crates and let the other dogs out.
Sometimes in the evening (aka: play time), Mav will be playing with Granny, and he'll go up to Cappy's cage and play bark to him. He looks at me like, "Mooooom, let him ouuuuut!" Twice I gave in. Both times they jumped at each other like they normally do during play, and Mav got scared, kinda did a grunty growl, and didn't want to play anymore. He retreated to his spare bedroom and that was that.
Since the fight, they've not growled at each other/been snotty when walking by each other's crate or anything like that. They both slept in bed with me the other night, and they slept with their butts touching for a few hours. While they did great, I don't want to make it an every night thing just yet.
I guess I just don't understand the wishy washy behavior from Mav. Sometimes he acts like the boogie man is on the bed, and then other times he wants to play. Should I reward him each time he sees Cappy so he thinks Cappy=good? Or do you think this taking it slow will eventually get us there?
