I was just wondering what yall feed your dogs in addition to their regular food. Like healthy for dogs fruits, vegetables and grains. I've seen many lists of things that are poisonous or unhealthy for dogs to eat, but what are some things that are good for them? I'm not looking for products, just regular food I would normally have in the house.

As 'extras' I feed cored apples, carrots, the occasional egg (with shell), and random veggies get tossed to him as I'm cooking.

My guys gets plain organic yogurt in their food everyday. Sometimes they'll get a whole raw egg too. They also share bits of my dinner, if it's appropriate.

Mine like carrots as treats. They also enjoy fruit, the random cracker or cereal (though not particularly nutritious), cracked raw eggs with shell, 4% fat cottage cheese, and plain yogurt.

I give Lucy carrots as treats once in a while. I bet eggs would be good for her but we have an all veggie household (except the pup and the kitties) and I don't know if I could stomach cutting raw meat up for her. thanks for the suggestions.

If you're not comfortable handling meat, you can give her free range eggs, yogurt, etc. I also share a bit of whatever I'm eating if it's not dangerous for dogs...Murphy loves steamed veggies, pasta...anything really LOL.

I'm actually a vegetarian, and my dog is a semi-vegetarian (he gets a veg kibble, and some very select occasional meat products like organic chicken or grass fed beef tripe). So most of the 'extras' he gets are vegetarian - I'll give him brown rice, oatmeal, his new fave thing is a bit of peanut butter (just a bit as a treat).

My guys get all kinds of goodies:
Cottage cheese Plain yogurt Flax seed raw eggs w/crushed shell various fishes (be careful with certain salmons) shredded cheeses Parm cheese rice cooked pastas veggies (both love carrots, Jazz will work for green beans) fish oil capsules oils peanut butter (in small doses/capped Kongs) tripe (smells yummy...NOT!) oatmeal whole meats (lamb, chicken, beef, venison, kangaroo, bison, etc) bananas beans raw, meaty bones are the mainstay of my dogs' diet along with all the other stuff I feed but I also feed kibble and canned occasionally and in a manner which reduces issues (hence research for years).
They also enjoy licking my plate (depending on what I ate) and snagging bits of bread from my meals, etc.
When my husband and I go fishing, I will offer them whole fish (dependant on the type) and I also get lots of goodies from friends, relatives who hunt deer, rabbit and dove.
Interestingly enough, I was vegetarian for over ten years before marrying my husband and moving to his family land...we raise beef cattle now...I tried for a long time but eventually was wrangled back to my Texan "meat-eater" roots.

Oooo looks like I'll have to be ordering some yummies for Luca. He's been a veggie dog for quite a few years and I've only recently started introducing meats again. It's so weird considering I myself am a vegetarian, but I missed giving him meat!!! It's very exciting to me! LOL (Am I weird?? hee hee)

Not weird...I was a vegetarian for about ten years til I married and moved to cattleville. My husbandis so a meat and potatoes kinda guy, there was no way around it for someone with very little self-control. What's Luca's protein source when eating veggie? Do you use soy stuff, beans?

My husbandis so a meat and potatoes kinda guy, there was no way around it for someone with very little self-control. What's Luca's protein source when eating veggie? Do you use soy stuff, beans? He gets Natural Balance Vegetarian formular which is 18% crude protine. He has been on it for years now, and is doing fantastic. Before I started him back on some animal protein, he got nothing but the NB - his body couldn't handle anything else. I tried everything from conventional to BARF to cooked home made, nothing helped his horrid skin condition (allergies). Finally in desperation I went against what everyone was saying (meats and no grain/kibble!) and tried a kibble with NO meat in it LOL Within weeks his hair started growing back. Except for a brief switch to Solid Gold white fish fomula last year, he's been on NB ever since. These are the ingredients: Brown Rice, Oatmeal, Cracked Pearled Barley, Peas, Potato Protein, Canola Oil, Potatoes, Tomato Pomace, Vegetable Flavoring, Flaxseed, Potassium Chloride, Choline Chloride, Taurine, Natural Mixed Tocopherols, Spinach, Parsley Flakes, Cranberries, L-Lysine, L-Carnitine, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Dried Kelp, Vitamin E Supplement, Iron Proteinate, Zinc Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Potassium Iodide, Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B-1), Manganese Proteinate, Manganous Oxide, Ascorbic Acid, Vitamin A Supplement, Biotin, d-Calcium Pantothenate, Manganese Sulfate, Sodium Selenite, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B-6), Vitamin B-12 Supplement, Riboflavin (Vitamin B-2), Vitamin D-2 Supplement, Folic Acid.
