Does anyone know of an airline that has a direct flight from anywhere in AL to anywhere in IA that flies dogs (80+ pounds)? Or any way of getting a large dog from AL to IA? Or if anyone is along the way (Tennessee, Mississippi, Illinois, or Missouri) and would be willing to help out please PM me (I would pay for all gas and expenses)! I have found the perfect Cane Corso for our family. Problem is she is located in Alabama! He previous owner recently got deployed and Halle (the Corso) is now with the previous owner’s brother who cannot keep her. He is a lawyer and owns his own business and has no time for her. She spends A LOT of her time by herself in a crate. Ketiher (The one who has her now) can not bring himself to take her to a shelter. She was bred by a reputable breeder who is willing to take her back but Keith want her to go to her forever home. He made a promise to his brother: He will find the the right home. We are trying to figure out the best way to get her here but keep running into dead ends! Any advice or ideas appreciated!

I'm pretty sure that Delta will not fly brachycephalic dogs. Not sure about Cane Corsos, but they do have Pits on their list, even though I don't think it's for respiratory reasons. There's a list of breeds on their site somewhere I believe.

I talked to some person from Delta airlines on the phone and he made it seem like they would fly an Italian Mastiff (Cane Corso). Then again, I dont think he knew what that was. I told the person that with the crate the dog would probably be close to 100 pounds and they said that was fine depending on the size of the plane...I felt like this particular person had NO idea what they were talking about.... At this point I think I may be taking a trip to AL. Im not sure if that would be possible though, with Gustavos work and my daughter.
I will figure something out. Like the saying goes " If there is a will, there is a way"!!!
I just wish I could figure something out. If we have to fly her in, I believe we are going to wait for the weather to warm up a bit (Maybe in April) so we dont have to worry about Halle getting cold.

Yeah, pretty sure the airline guy was clueless and just agreeing with you!
It might also be good to wait a few months to see if Boomer's attitude is good enough. Have you noticed any change back to the way he used to be?

We have yet another vet appointment with the Hip & Joint specialist in Radcliffe. Our regular vet actually is beginning to think his hip dysplasia or his knee may be bothering him due to the things I’ve told him so time for more X-rays and tests...As for his behaviors-He is acting more like himself.
I think he believed he was "the man" of the house there for awhile. All his privileges, freedom, and things are gone. Boomer has absolutely NOTHING to guard at this point...He doesn’t even have his “sacred” blankie in his crate. He has to earn his meals and he gets NO room for mistakes or dominance.
I have also come to the conclusion that he is NOT breed standard- No doubt in my mind He is just aloof with strangers. If he does not know you, he does not want your attention until he is 100% sure you are ok. It usually takes him about 30 minutes to warm up to women and he rarely warms up to men. Not sure if something happened to him or if he is just sexist.
If a stranger tries to pet him, he will do everything possible to avoid them. I tell visitors just to ignore him or I crate him. He is NOT aggressive; I have established that, he is just aloof. With men, he watches them. Sometimes he will come up slowly to sniff them but he like to just lay in his crate and watch.
This is something (Adding a Cane Corso to our family) Gustavo and I have been thinking about a lot. We have been researching the crap out of this breed. I really believe we are ready.
I know Boomer will be jealous at first but I also know he will be ok!

Years ago (like 13 or 14), I used Delta to fly an APBT from CA to NJ, but I have no idea what their policies, etc are now. But waiting is probably the best bet, it's way too cold right now.

Have you gone on to Delta's website and looked at their guidelines? I know that most airlines have their guidelines listed and they state that they will not fly dogs between certain temps.

Amy Jo, keep in mind that I'm in Chicago so I might be able to do a leg of the transport to Iowa if you decided to do it by car rather than flying him.

Yeah.. I was going to say, since he's a rehome, I doubt it would be terribly hard to get a rescue tran going. Depending on where in AL, we've got lots of support, and then again in GA or SC route (however he'd have to go). We'd just need enough time to plan it all out and give it time to fill, but I doubt it would be that hard. Also, there are a few paid transports like form AL to CT/NH area and other NE stops. Maybe he can pay transport up and then vol transport over? Don't think he'll qual for a Pilots N Paws without a 501 rescue.

I am really skeptical about a flight, I have heard SO many horror stories! There is no rush. Keith wants her to have a good home and he doesnt mind waiting until spring if need be. Cost is NO issue. I would be willing to pay any transports! Do you have a specific rescue in mind? Im not familiar with that area. I cant remember where he is located but he said he would be willing to drive anywhere in the state. Thanks again guys!!! I knew you guys would have ideas!

I am in Bham too. Where is he? And my vols can def get him out of AL, all we'd need to figure out is what route to take. If you want, mapquest the route from him to you and post the link here. We can see what rescues are on the way, and see who we know in those areas. If it looks good, we can ask for volunteers tofill in the rest.

I'm sure you've gotten lots of info about the dog from the surrent owner, but I wanted to also offer to temp test her. I do tem evals for Bama Bully Rescue. I'd offer it regardless, but since Center Point is apretty abd area of town, I wanted to make sure I let you know I was willing. I'll look at the map tomorrow and see what areas would be easy to cover with volunteers.

I might have to take you up on that offer Garland!!!
From what Keith has told me she is a good dog. Just high energy and has not been broke of jumping. These two things are not an issue to me. I want a high energy dog with a drive because I would like to compete with this dog. I wanted to with Boomer but he has hip/joint issues that ruined the chances of that. She is a typical Cane Corso...A little aloof with strangers but LOVES her family.
What is all tested for a temperament test?

Our temp test includes sociability/acceptance of new people. Physical manipulation (how do they tolerate petting, hugging, affection). Increased physical manipulation that includes a toe pinch, tail pull and flank grab, to see how the dog reacts to being accidentally injured, and how well they recover, or if they stay weary (think kids who accidentally pull tail..). Startle test, which includes testing for handshyness, reaction to loud noises/yelling (does the dog investigate, or redirect, or attack..). Food aggression, resource guarding (towards humans, not other dogs). Excitability/self control (how do they react when you initiate play, do they give up, or keep being pushy). Toy/play/prey drive- does she tug or let go easily, will she trade up for another toy if unwilling to let go of the one she has, does she shark or grab at what I have if she wants it.
