I have grassfed liver (0.6lbs) so I can chop it up and add a small hunk of it a few times a week. Maybe he's just getting too much organ/tripe on a daily basis?

any reason why you are feeding organic? organic is expensive.. the tripe and organ meat ratio could be too much for him. have you thought of maybe trying www.omaspride.com for the organ meat rolls and just getting his premade without it? then you can regulate yourself his organ meat and see what you give him. the grinders are not that big, maybe the size of a toaster oven sideways, i had one from northern tool that sat onmy countertop and didnt take up any space at all.. or try a group that sells in bulk that could also be cheaper for you...

I was feeding a little under a pound daily of that mix. Thats what the lady from the site recommended to me as a balanced diet.
Yeah, my supply of this stuff is just about up. I think I am going to try and just feed from Trader Joe's organic meats (either ground beef or pork ribs) and supplement a little bit of the liver I already have once or twice a week.

I prefer organic because I don't like whats in the plain factory farmed stuff and buying him grassfed is just a little out of my current price range. At least organic doesn't have the extra growth hormones (which his sarcoma doesn't need) and no crazy amounts of antibiotics.

if the tripe.organ meat is too much at 7% each that might be the problem, especially if he is getting that EVERY day...

Yeah, with his cancer the last thing I want is to make them bigger/grow faster/multiple or any other craziness. Went to TJ's last night. The organic stuff...$5.50 a pound. *sigh*

So three feeding of just organic ground beef, a teaspoon or less of bone meal, and a spoonful of plain boiled rice here and there and magic! According to the bf (who did Chubby's second morning walk) his poop looks totally and 100% normal!! So I guess it was that the mix was too rich to be having all the time (the baggies I have left of it will probably be given to him for one feeding every two days or so). I'm so thrilled he back to normal.
And yes, the bf thinks I'm really odd for being so obsessed with Chubby's potty habits, lol.

Good going! The whole thing with RAW is the constant tweaking and finding what works and doesn't. (or in this case the good poop dance award for Chubs)

Are chicken feet considered bone or just cartilage?

So, Chubby was doing very well on just ground muscle (and sometimes beef gullet) with bone powder. I was afraid he would be missing out on lots of important nutrients by not having organ meats so I added back a little in his food supply and he is getting muscusy stools (sometimes they look like they have a 'casing' of beige mucus) and getting all farty again. What do I do? Scale back the organ mix even more (what would the minimum be for a low-activity 60lb dog?). Should I just feed the muscle and bone powder and give him a doggie multivitamin?
I'm at a loss. Just when you think you got it right...nope!

What organs have you given him? I think he can't have poultry, right?

A bit OT, but I couldn't resist: I don't feed raw, but my dogs found a nest of unhatched peahen eggs that was abandoned in my fenced off side yard sometime last spring and, well, um, what an odor! No, no one got sick. And I was once again happy that I am a drop command freak when I caught Roxy the Husky Mix trying to smuggle one back into the house!

Dave: It seems he tolerates turkey necks well (chicken still makes him a little itchy and pretty splotchy-faced). The organs he got was tripe/liver/heart/kidney/lung in less than 10% concentration mixed in with ground beef. That mix was mixed in with even more ground beef (since I didn't want the organ % too high) but it still seems too rich for him.
John: I wish Chubby had a better 'drop it'. He seems to think 'drop it' means close your mouth tighter. I've tried the trading game with him but with certain items (toys and balls) we just flat out won't open his maw (food items he generally lets me take out of his mouth, but he won't spit them out for anything). But yeah...what an odor is right!
