Sigh.....I finally posted on FB that I was getting a puppy. I held off because I was worried some of my rescue and animal rights friends might take offense. I did get some people posting about how they had a ton of dogs at their shelter. No negative remarks yet, but it bums me out that I feel like I have to defend my choice to get a show puppy, especially considering the work I do through RPB.

There's a lot of breeder hatred going around Facebook right now. You're planning on actually SHOWING this puppy - you can't do that with a shelter dog.

Showing in AKC is something I love and wanted to get back into. Because I do truly understand how dire the situation is with homeless dogs, Pit Bulls in particular, I guess I feel the need to make sure people get the fact that a pup from a breeder was a necessity for me due to my show plans. I expect people who don't know me personally, who are involved in rescue, to maybe be like, "What gives???" but people who DO know me, well.....I just feel like I shouldn't be made to feel like I'm doing something "wrong".

honestly if people cant understand you got a puppy for certain reasons then screw them. they dont walk in your shoes, they dont live your life.. do what YOU want . not what others want you to do.. and dont let them make you feel like you are doing something wrong..

If/when we get a Stafford pup, I'm sure I'll get some flack, as well. But I don't care. I want a puppy that I can raise with the cats and with Saxon and know how big she is going to get. Unless both parents are known, I have no idea how big a rescue puppy is going to be. Also, I want a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. I love the breed and want another. I will probably rescue dogs in the future, but at this moment I have a very specific dog that I want and I'm going to get said dog from a breeder. Deal with it or prepare to be deleted. You shouldn't have to justify yourself to your friends. I can't wait to "meet" Sage!!

Mary, hold your head high. You'll be getting a true breed ambassador from an ethical breeder who contributes to bettering the breed. There's no shame in that so put the shamers behind you.
