Mary, hold your head high. You'll be getting a true breed ambassador from an ethical breeder who contributes to bettering the breed. There's no shame in that so put the shamers behind you. Thank you, Dave. I just got a disheartening email from someone about this, too. It upset me, TBH.

I've never been a "don't breed while shelter dogs die" kind of person. There has to be a balance, and there's plenty of room for ethical, well-bred pups. Not being an extremist in either direction, I find it hard to understand either side. So hit the ignore button once in a while, delete negative messages, and if they press you, block them. It's okay to get mad, too.
Then take a deep breath and move on.
The people that matter will slap you on the back and say "congrats!"

^ Very true, Dave. Thanks again. I have been through this before, but it has been 15 years since I've bought from a breeder and over the past 15 years I have definitely turned more into a rescue person than a "purebred dog breeder show" person. So I think since I've established myself as the latter, more people would more expect me to get a rescue dog. But there is nothing wrong with me continuing my hobby of conformation showing, for which I need a purebred dog from a breeder. I am so happy about this puppy right now, more happy than I have been about anything in a long time. I feel really good about my decision and have a lot of plans laid out for this dog. Including training him as my service dog.

There's a lot of breeder hatred going around Facebook right now. You're planning on actually SHOWING this puppy - you can't do that with a shelter dog. Exactly. Showing in AKC is something I love and wanted to get back into. Because I do truly understand how dire the situation is with homeless dogs, Pit Bulls in particular, I guess I feel the need to make sure people get the fact that a pup from a breeder was a necessity for me due to my show plans. I expect people who don't know me personally, who are involved in rescue, to maybe be like, "What gives???" but people who DO know me, well.....I just feel like I shouldn't be made to feel like I'm doing something "wrong". sadly this is only going to get worse for you and I am very sorry. But you'll need to prepare yourself even more for the attacks on your motives and credibility. Maybe you just want to write up a simple statement to post and then refuse any further comments. Perhaps allow some discussion/debate and then delete the hate. I think you might have to do something, because otherwise you know what kind of rumors will spread. Remember how Diane Jessup was basically run off the Internet because she had the nerve to breed some dogs?

Yup, I remember, Emily. I've actually thought about putting up a blog of some sort, re: my current situation as well as an update on RPB. I just don't know what exactly to say yet, how to say it, or if I SHOULD say anything....

^ This is YOUR life and YOUR dog Mary. You don't owe anyone an explanation and it is none of their business. It's a choice that fits your life and your interests. And you've earned your rescue cred, much more so than most of those judging you I'm sure. Even though I will always only have rescues, that's the choice that's right for my life and my needs. I don't at all disagree with your decision, and I've come to realize that ethical breeders and ethical breed rescuers do far more good working together than they do being at odds.

Pull rank and give them all a big dose of STFU.

I feel a little better this afternoon, it's just that I felt like I was getting it from all angles earlier today, even from a trainer I had approached about puppy classes I plan on taking. Thanks, everyone, ya'll are the best

Waiting to hear from my breeder. The pups should be born in a couple weeks or so.

I was dreading posting this, but I might as well just get it over with......
I'm not getting a puppy right now. Believe it or not, mama Ellie went for an ultrasound and there were *no pups*. She was never even pregnant. My breeder was really apologetic and was either trying to swap out a pick pup from another litter in lieu of a stud fee she was going to get paid, or else she was going to try to bring me something back from Budapest. I opted to wait.
Aside from the fact that I was deadset on a pup from this litter, Marc and I have a lot going on right now, between planning a move and getting married (as well as a bunch of other stuff) and I just have to take this as a sign from the Universe that I just need to wait a little longer before I get another dog.
Not gonna lie, I'm so disappointed and I cried when I heard this news. But my gut says for right *now* due to some major life changes I'm experiencing, this is for the best.
Thanks for listening, guys!
