HELLO EVERYONE, NEW TO THE FORUM. Our pitbull jacey has started to have some very ugly skin problems on her nose, eyes, and snout. Nose is cracked and bleeding. Started this fall. Vet meds not helping. Anybody else have this with their dog? Spots are very dry and some hair is being lost. Giving her licorice root and antihistimine. Scratching is also a problem. Thinking about RAW food diet. SHe has been on grain free high end dog food for her whole life. thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum! Sorry you are having skin issues with your pup.
What does the vet think it is? Has a skin scraping been done? There are a lot of different skin disorders in dogs.
With regards to raw diet- I am a huge proponent of it and there is quite a bit of info on here about it.

Thanks! Love this forum... Has anyone dealt with this problem? We are leaning on enviromental allergies...inhalent allergies. I found a link through this forum that said to try Omega Pet or Derma Caps. Anyone fid that these supplements help? We definately will not use steroids. We are looking for holistic remedies.

Welcome to the forum! Sorry that your pup is having these skin issues. Doesn't sound like anything that I'm familiar with. I second Michele's suggestion of asking for further testing from your vet.

Thanks for all the feedback. I cannot find anyone who is having atopic allergy problems though. I am a researcher, and I will continue to do more research to find out what we can do for jacey holistically. Thanks. I will try to post again on managment and care board.

Thanks so very helpful! You're welcome! My dog has allergy/skin issues as well. It's a difficult health issue, so many conflicting treatment viewpoints and it can be difficult to figure out the exact cause/problem to begin with which makes matters worse.

Jacey has why dry spots around her eyes and on her nose....have you found anything that can help this? She won't let me keep any cream on her nose, she rubs it right off! So frustrating! p.s. I cannot figure out how to upload a picture, can you help?

I have found nordic naturals fish oil for pets to help Rocky with his brittle nails I also rub the organic coconut oil on him however he likes to lick it off so probably better in the food.

I haven't taken the time to read through all of the posts (wow, there are a lot!) but I do know that my girl had some pretty bad skin issues when she first came to us - and after paying hundreds in vet bills, someone recommended that we try taking away all food with red and yellow dyes. Since we have not had one outbreak. May want to try this if you haven't already. Best of luck!

Thanks everyone! We are using benadryl and Licorice root which seems to be keeping it under control. We only use high grade dog food free of dyes and grains. I will get her on fish oil ASAP...checking out Nordic Naturals. Also waiting for the fall grasses here in Wisconsin to die off so see if that clears up her white, dry, face. I will try to post a pic as soon as possible. PS....we are also using essential oils and they are helping!!

Our lab/retriever mix used to have awful skin problems. She would get these big scab like patches on her back and neck.
Our vet had us use a special shampoo whenever we gave her a bath and that seemed to work a little bit, but the best thing we found to help releive the itching at least was a good'Ol fashioned oatmeal bath. It would ease the itching long enough for the patches to heal, and seemed to help with new skin growth.
Don't know if this would help due to where your puppy is having her problems. Good luck!
