With Petplan do you have the gold, silver or bronze plan? Then I have to decide if I want the 80percent or 100 percent coverage. I probably would consider the 80

I think we have the bronze. Ours is 80%, with a $50 deductible per illness/injury. The 80% is for specialists only. Regular vet is fully covered. BTW Carolann, you can always email me directly... suziriot@gmail.com. My iphone never leaves my side so I respond to emails pretty quickly.

We got some unexpected and terrible news today when we met with the oncologist. We were expecting to begin his radiation treatments, but instead we found out that Barley almost died when he was under anesthesia last week. He has so much fluid in his brain and the tumor is so big, that it put too much pressure in his cranial cavity and he crashed. They were able to stop it and get him stabilized, but I can't believe that they didn't tell us this LAST WEEK!!! They told us last week that he did fine. They had said he could start radiation this week. Well, it turns out that the actual radiation oncologist was not in last week and so she was not included in their plans. It was the medical oncologist. This oncologist today was very honest with us and said that she has consulted with another radiation oncologist who is very experienced with this type of thing, and they believe that this is a choroid plexus, not a meningioma. They have very little success in shrinking these tumors with radiation. Basically, the situation is this: Barley is at very high risk for dying while under anesthesia and they have to put him under for the 16 treatments, there is very little chance that radiation will shrink the tumor even a little, there is very little chance that his symptoms will improve and a small chance that he will remain the same, and even so he will probably only make it another 5 to 6 months. So we have the choice of going ahead with the radiation and risk him dying under anesthesia (and taking that risk 16 times), or euthanizing him sometime in the next few weeks.

oh no that is just terrible news. And so disappointing that the vets were dishonest/ignorant.
This is such a hard choice.

Thanks for your thoughts and support everyone. It's actually incredibly helpful to have you guys to come to. I know you all understand what I'm going through, and don't think I'm crazy for being this upset over my dog.
Emily, I think that I'm going to call CSU consulting service tomorrow to get a second opinion on our options. Maybe that will give us some help in making a decision. Thank you again for posting that.
