I am one of those people who say, OMG your dog is so tiny! LOL I know it is standard but I am used to my 75 pound, tall APBT. hehehe shes a monster....My next pit will be a smaller one It is weird though, becuase I saw some of Kangas brothers and sisters and they were average size, same with her parents.... She just kept growing and growing and growing

Boomer isn’t big (50 Pounds). He is just the way I like APBT’s.
There is a breeder in Iowa (About 2 hours) from me that sells Eli bred APBT’s. He seems like a reputable/ethical breeder. It’s nice to see an APBT breeder that knows what a REAL APBT is.
I also noticed something, when I look on Petfinder; the APBT’s that are in shelters (In my area any way) are not the HUGE Bully bred ones. They are smaller, the way I like them! More of a reason to adopt instead of buy!
It is SO rare to find a breeder of REAL APBT’s and when you do, dogs are usually pricy. Shelters on the other hand, you know the dog is not huge (When adopting an adult anyway) and the adoption fee is cheap (especially because the dog has usually been vaccinated, microchipped, fixed etc.)!
There is NO doubt in my mind; next dog I get will be adopted!

Yeah Last night at the therapy test there was a pit bull very small who left just as we got there. So we ended up in a room of furry dogs-corgis,aussies,goldens,poodle like dogs and as Rocky was relaxing and giving paw and doing commands on hand signals to keep busy one person asked the old what kind of dog is he. I finally learned to do it and said Pit Bull (in case you never read an old post I was calling ROCKY an AM Staff as advised by someone at shelter for neighbor reasons) She responded "really he does not look like a pit bull at all". But just recently I ran into a man at lowes who was helping me pick out stuff I was making a bed for shelter dogs. He asked me what kind of dog I had so I showed him a pic on my cell. Oh my, he said you are so lucky you got a good ol fashioned one there. He looks like the pit bull when they use to be called am staff. First time someone picked up on that. Guy said looks like the perfect height weight historical pit bull. I must have been glowing. An educated dog man who does not own a pit bull. He owned a boxer. I agree with you Amy Jo tons of perfect pitties in the shelter.

I get that same "He's too small to be a Pit" all the time with Cappy. Cappy is probably a Pit mix, but still has a very large amount of Pit in him. His underbite makes me think there's something else, however he could just be a Pit with an underbite. Anyway, he's 50lbs. He's solid. Not an ounce of fat on the boy. However, he's not all bulky and stocky like the "bred to look cool and mean" Pits. He's so darn athletic and agile. He's not so blocky that he wobbles side to side like some of them.
I love the Real APBT, not the dog who looks like he's a cartoon!

My Boomer also doesn’t have any fat on him. He is very athletically built. Boomer is a little bit disproportioned; he’s all head and chest. But I love his big goofy head!
Boomer’s nickname is fat head! LOL!

I took my Angel to work last week to weigh her and was surprised to find out she's 51 lbs!!! she's only 8 1/2 months old and not as tall as her mother but deep chested like her father. I'm not sure how much pibbles grow after 8 months of age. Attachments:

My Chubs is not very leggy, but weighs about 64lbs (although to be fair, he does have some fat on him, I think from poor quality food the shelter had and the treats I've been giving him to get him to come out of his shell in his new home). Once he is more acclimated to the house and his new family, the treats will lessen and the walks will get longer.
I only want a Chubby dog in name only, lol.

When I took Winston into the vet for his skin allergies, he weighed 63lbs. He looked perfect to me. No fat, but you could no longer "see" ever rib he has. Now that he's been on medication and become a hog, and the walks no longer amount to 8-10 miles a week thanks to a brutal winter... he's put on some weight. Here is a video i took a while back, you can see the size difference between my 105lb black lab and a 63lb Winstons: s155.photobucket.com/albums/s298/toxicnightmare/Winston/?action=view¤t=0903091538.flvHe goes in soon for blood allergy testing, so hopefully we can ditch the medication, and spring has GOT to be around the corner soon! Then we'll get back to a normal routine. Oh... Both he and the lab get 3 cups of food a day. I start with 2 in the morning and 1 at night, unless we've done a lot of treating w/ the kibble or something else. Then I adjust for it. I do have to watch that Winston doesn't steal the pugs food. Because he will if given the chance!

When we got Jess, I will admit that I was CONVINCED she was a mix. Her chest and waist look a ton like a gray hound's. In fact, the only thing that really looked like a pit bull to me was her face. When I took her to the vet, the receptionist said that she looked like a true pit bull, but the vet said she looked like a pit bull boxer mix. She weighed in at about 46 pounds. The vet was wonderful and did say that she was the perfect weight and not to let other people tell me to put some weight on her. You can't see her ribs, but she is very skinny. Not an ounce of fat. My family also thinks she is a mix of some kind (but I don't mind them thinking this because it seems to ease their concerns regarding her breed).
Regardless of what people think she is, she is perfect and I love her to death!

Well, actually traditionally APBTs should have a nice lean waist, reminiscent of a Greyhound. I think a lot of the general public, if they saw a gamebred-style (i.e. traditional) APBT they wouldn't think it was a Pit Bull at all.

Chubs is stocky and blocky (but not as bad as those American Bully things). Still trying to figure out what he's mixed with. Hmmmm.
I guess I'll try to get some body shots of him and see what you guys think. I mean his face everyone agreeed is pitbull (if I remember correctly).

He reminds me of a Neo, or some kind of mastiff, but he is less than 60 pounds, right? He doesn't remind me of an American Bully, at least not in the pix I saw. I'd love to play Guess the Chubbs! Post pix of him stacked, from the side, when you get a chance

He's 64lbs (but he's a little...um, chubby so he could stand to drop a few pounds). I'll see what i can do pics-wise.

Oooo Sugar! We love to guess the breed!!!
My Boomer looks kind of skinny when really he is not. The vet said he is built perfectly! My mom always says "Has he been dewormed? He is sure a scrawny lookin' thing!" LOL!
Many people do not believe me when I say he is an APBT.
Boomer is a little wider than the dog in the pic Mary posted but he has less muscule on his back legs. Boomer isnt very long or tall either. That dog looks a little leggy to me.
My PhotoBucket isnt working right now but when I can I will post some decent pictures of Boomers body.

yeah yeah guess the breed... and myangel, Pit bulls grow for some time from what lI experienced. I was told to expect the growth to end at 9months to a year. NOT Rocky filled out and continued to get a little taller he hit his weight at 3 years old of 65lbs which he has maintained. At a year he was 50lbs. Each time people see him that have not seen him in months they will say. Rocky Grew. People on the street when he was in that 1 year old range always said he looked like he was mixed with greyhound. He is very narrow in the back end. lean and long legs.

Maybe Jess is still growing! I will definitely admit that I was one of those people who thought pit bulls were supposed to be short and thick! Once I did my research before getting Jess, I realized this wasn't the case!
