Well as always I go for broke. We brought him home the day he was fixed. Of course no strenuous activity. I brought him in the backyard and led Sophie through the house...and held my breath. He was checking out the yard and she walked up to him and went into a play bow. Maybe he was alittle tight there but they did play together perfectly! He's stronger but she's faster so it does work out. He was about 2 years and her about 8 at the time and they maintain a puppy/Mommy relationship even now.
Of course adding a new pup isn't easy. That same day my son left the front door unlatched. Somebody used their big old head to make a run for it. So much for still being woozy. Of course the local police were thrilled when I called in a panic that a male pit was missing.
We were blessed, as we were driving around looking for him a neighbor called the cell. They had lured him into their house with salami and read his tags. Happy first day home...it was an adjustment but you learn. And that front door has a double, head proof lock on it now heeheehee

Just finished "JFK Jr., George and Me" by Matt Berman. I'm a total Kennedy buff. Interesting view of JFK Jr. by someone who worked closely with him from the conception of George magazine until his death. Hated to read to the end, by that time you feel like you knew him too.

Hi kidz it's been awhile. I know a site that calls itself Puppy Toob isn't going to be full of any science rockets but this list is obscene. St. Bernards and Great Danes by virtue of just being BIG...D'oh Chows I've had limited experience with and maybe they're more adult dogs than family dogs, but I don't know about dangerous Dobermans, I used to know two dobies quite well. Their owners dressed them in shirts and they were at every party, big lovable galoots Malamutes and Huskies-I had a huskie once. Strong, energetic, ideal working dogs, did I say energetic? But dangerous no I think most of us agree that with hybrids it's iffy to know how much wolf we're talking about German Shepherds and Rottweilers-Trained as any number of service dogs, police dogs, and yes guard dogs. Also particularly with GSD's one of the most devoted dogs you'll ever know Then of course numero uno on this list...wait for it...The Evil Pit! There wasn't anywhere to contact these idiots so I wrote in their rescue story section. Briefly covering how we came to adopt Sophie and Callie. How they are the perfect dog for us. Then I revealed their breed and said they should be ashamed of themselves. Saying they're dog lovers while promoting hate and BSL laws. Pathetic, ignorant, that's what's dangerous puppytoob.com/dog-breeds/the-10-most-dangerous-d og-breeds-based-on-biting-statistics/

Thank you, I realize now after the initial panic subsided that yes someone would be more than happy to care for Sophie if need be and Callie we can work around ourselves. My husbands making the beginning progress on rehabbing himself, so with some prayers and me getting at least one more job, we might be okay...paws crossed

Hi, I haven't been active on here for quite some time. I'm starting to research some "Just in Case" options for my two beloved doggies. My husband has become disabled. It's a physical issue he may be able to recover from enough to return to work. Then again he may not...even if I can find another two or three more jobs I can't come close to making the taxes where we live now. Even if he gets full disability and I have two or three more jobs I don't know if I can come close to earning enough for the cost of living around here. What I'm trying to research in the meantime is possible temporary foster care for the dogs.
Sophie is about eight and considered American Staffordshire, Callie is about two and considered American Bulldog. We've had Sophie many years and Callie for one. They have both peacefully lived with cats and are relaxed around children. They do very well together as well. Sophie is on the timid side and I think Callie makes her feel more confident. She is older and a bit bigger and considers him almost her puppy. They both follow basic commands and have perfect potty habits. If anyone has feedback on finding care for them until we can re-establish ourselves...if it goes that far...paws crossed it doesn't...

Hi All, Hope everyone's survived the winter...Think Spring!!!! Today when I was at work a neighbor came by and knocked. My husband got the dogs pushed in off the porch so they could talk. The gentleman motioned to the sidewalk and said " Is this your dog???". Maybe he saw me walking Callie, maybe he took a chance on the SUV with Love your Bully bumper stickers in the driveway...
But my husband thanked him for asking, but no Callie was inside barking from the window. He said the dog was a lighter brindle than Callie and had a natural tail but otherwise looked like his twin...medium sized, droopy lips and all head n' shoulders. The dog didn't bark or even really look at our two lunatics yowling at him from the window. My husband said he seemed really laid back. No tags, they found him walking a block away...I'd hate to see him shipped off to the humane society if he hasn't gotten there already. I was going to ask the animal control person if she knew anything about where he might be, maybe they even found his house who knows.
But if maybe she's holding him or something, is there somebody I can suggest she call or email so he doesn't have to end up in Newark?

I know what I can and can't deal with anymore, just can't watch coverage of anything right now. Think people bring up issues as some way of explaining the unimaginable...or some kind of hope for change of somebody finally standing up to the gun lobby... But something so simple...something some of us have done for decades...sending your child to school in the morning...but never seeing them again...just makes you physically, sick there are no words

Glad he's okay, you must've been so freaked! Callie got into a box of hidden candy recently and fortunately poison control figured from the ingredients that it was just lightly chocolate flavored and he puked most of it anyway. Sending Chubs a hug

Hideyho Everyone, Hope everyone is safe, we're having brown outs and the wind, holy %#@& the wind!!!!!! Update, I've got a bully boy named Callie now too. It was love at first sight for me and for Sophie. At the shelter he was the only quiet one as I walked past the kennels. You know where they look at you so intensely you expect them to speak human just to play with you? And as I put my hand to the gate he raised his paw to my hand. I brought him home through the backyard. Sophie isn't territorial and I felt a place where she feels safe was a good idea for a first meeting. It worked beautifully. She sniffed, he sniffed and she went down into a play bow and they danced around the yard. They've been a team ever since. He's younger and doesn't mind her rooofing him into line sometimes. Two velcro doggies now, one for each side

I'm gonna take an internet vacation fer a spell...a bit overly sensitive at the moment and...how to word it???? We're trying to advocate for dogs with certain similar physical and behavioral characteristics but doesn't it seem to go against that philosophy making blanket statements...they're all individuals, saying with conviction what a dog will ultimately do just because they have the potential to is absurd...eh whatever

Okay, Michele I'll respect your perspective on the matter
But Maryellen...I know todays culture is "tell it like it is and call it as you see it" but an analogy is Achmed at work one day... There was the matter of a simple rain check that turned into a blistering rant on his part, because of course if the corporation loses six cents it will obviously result in hours being cut, jobs being lost and ultimately the corporation tanking...yes but of course There's not an excuse for sounding like we learned our manners in jr high...a simple the dog park might be a bad idea would suffice. an

And like cleaning up after human children, we have to vent over the frustration of the mess. But love is why we do clean it up...Chii isn't terribly elderly...she's just obnoxious. She's a purebred "Munchkin", having to share her living space with a family of common housecats and...gasp A DOG has never helped her attitude.
I'm weekly scrubbing the living room carpet because of her, sometimes daily. The weewee pads might be an idea, never thought of that. I put essential oils in the dried flowers through the house ( lavender and clove cancel out alot of other smells).
I feel for you though having to make the choice of when to say goodbye, it takes time to get there

Well...yeah...but ya forget off-leash she's a way happy puppy with most dawgs...especially puppehs...
A bit of gallows humor-wish I could have said with a cheerful smile " Hum, that cute canine you're stroking is one of those monsterous pit bulls and I am a rather generous Jew"...then skipped off merrily with Pookins...

We were at the dog park yesterday. There were only a few people because of the cold. It's usually a mix of dogs and people given the diversity of the bordering areas. But this particular group...all neighbors and dog park fashionistas, the type of dogs with personal trainers and PR people too...excuse us for sullying the landscape... ... But amazingly I blended in enough to be included in the conversation-when you're older they assume you left the heeled boots at home for practicalities sake. So here they are chirrping about the nice people and friendly dogs who socialize here and its a rather nice group...however you must be careful on the weekends when certain people bring pit bulls there. Obviously they viewed Ophie as perhaps a beagle mix of some sort??? You know that situation where people pull you aside for toadly inappropriate comments...about those pit bulls, or those cheap Jews, or those retarded kids...of course being oblivious to the fact that you want to deck them but yer too appalled to speak

Was watching the hiking video of Sedona and its frustrating. In that situation with everyone on leash and her size she'd be snarling her doggie head off. But in a group with everyone off leash she'd silently sniff and greet everyone then follow beside me with no problem-the restraint makes a huge difference.

I ordered the lavender Buddy Wash yesterday. Looking forward to seeing if it helps the itchies. It'll probably make a big difference. Baby shampoo and Paul Mitchell work for humans. Mane and Tail is formulated for horses and people. But think those were too harsh for a short haired pooch.
I love seeing the transformation after a bath. We go up to the reservation alot and the dirt and clay coats everything...of course then you have to scrub the tub afterwards too.
But they get out of the tub and all the white highlights from paws on up are sparkling clean...n the smell...ya lay your head on their back and mmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dunno, tushy rubs make her happy but don't calm her and she won't eat anything outside the house...so rewarding her is tricky...
